What is Analog Buddy?

Analog Buddy is a minimalist iOS app built for film photographers. It combines a light meter, frame counter, multi-camera manager, and geo-logging tool — everything you need at the moment of capture, without the clutter.

How does the light meter work?

On iPhone, the app reads ISO, shutter speed, and aperture directly from the camera sensor via Apple's AVCaptureDevice API. It then calculates EV (Exposure Value) and lux in real time. No external hardware needed.

Is my data stored in the cloud?

No. All your cameras, film rolls, and frame logs are stored exclusively on your device using a local database. Nothing is uploaded to any server. Your data is yours.

Is the app free?

Analog Buddy is free to download. The free tier includes the light meter, flash calculator, one camera, basic frame counting, B&W film scanner, and 3 film simulation presets (Portra 400, Tri-X 400, Gold 200). Analog Buddy Pro unlocks unlimited cameras, geo-logging on every frame, color film scanner modes, save to library, and all 8 simulation presets.

What does Analog Buddy Pro include?

Pro unlocks: unlimited cameras, GPS geo-logging on every frame (view in Apple Maps), multiple concurrent film rolls, C-41 color and E-6 slide scanner modes, exposure adjustment in the scanner, save scans to photo library, all 8 film simulation presets, and save simulated photos to library. Everything runs on-device — no subscription data is ever uploaded.

What film formats are supported?

You can set any frame count per roll — 12, 24, 36, or custom — so it works with 35mm, 120 medium format, and any other film that counts frames. The app is camera-agnostic; just add your camera and load a roll.

Is it available for Android?

Currently Analog Buddy is iOS only (iPhone, iOS 16+). An Android version is on the roadmap but not yet available.
